What am I tired of today?
Not just in politics, but in public opinion, media, and consumerism.
I’m not going to make this post about anything specific to any particular political ideology. However, people should really take political ideologies with a grain of salt because they are all based on normative, wishful thinking.
To base your entire sense of self and your emotional well-being around a political ideology that is simply meant to motivate you to follow someone else’s beliefs about the world is the height of idiocy.
As I’ve said on this blog before, people take comfort in emoting and find thinking laborious. Ideologues delude themselves into the fallacy that “thinking” within the tenets of their ideology is being engaged in thought. In actuality, they are not thinking so much as they are regurgitating dogma, which isn’t thinking at all.
Falling for consumer marketing and buying into media narratives as if they were the gospel is as big of a problem as subscribing to political ideologies.
There’s nothing wrong with having the latest iPhone, but why camp out overnight to wait in a long line outside of an Apple Store, even in inclement weather, just to be amongst the first to have it?
Why go into debt to buy the latest car? Just to be amongst the first? To impress people?
Desire often overcomes logic when the right people manage to push the right buttons inside of us and this is how people become “sheeple”.
I’ll end this post with two Voltaire quotes that highlight what I’m Tired Of today…
Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices.
It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.
