Ideology Breeds Hypocrisy

I can always count on good ‘ol Facebook to find topics to write about that fit the theme of my blog 😉

Take the Twitter post from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that is clearly altered to show the Speaker’s alleged hypocrisy regarding her support for presumptive Democratic Party Presidential nominee Joe Biden in the midst of sexual assault allegations against him by Tara Reade, one of Biden’s staffers when he was in the United States Senate in 1993.

Just two years earlier, as the altered post reflects, Speaker Pelosi supported the accuser of now Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh, one Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford, who brought similar allegations against Kavanaugh when he was going through senate confirmation in 2018.

The political agenda against Biden in 2020 is as obvious as the political agenda against Kavanaugh (and by extension, President Donald Trump) in 2018. Our two-party adversarial system is alive and well.

As an aside, let these events serve as a caveat to those seeking power, especially in politics. The “other side” wants the job you want and the power that comes with it as much as you do and will do anything and use anyone to derail your efforts; up to and including using allegations of sexual misconduct that just conveniently come up at the most inconvenient times.

This post is not about discrediting or questioning the motives of women who come out of the woodwork when prominent men are on the cusp of obtaining a high-profile political office, though in my humble opinion, it takes more courage to confront someone who violates you sexually in the immediate aftermath vs letting years go by and only leveling accusations when a high political post is up for grabs.

This alleged sexual assault by Biden allegedly occurred in 1993. 27 years is a long time. Why not bring up these allegations in 2008 when Biden was former President Barack Obama’s running mate?

For that matter, why didn’t Blasey-Ford come forward much, much sooner? Her alleged sexual assault happened in the 1980s.

I digress, but I also don’t have an agenda nor do I have ideological blinders on. The point I wish to convey to my readers is that you should not view these allegations with ideological blinders on either.

If you are a liberal or a Biden supporter, you should support an investigation of Biden just like you likely supported the investigation of Brett Kavanaugh.

If you are a Trump supporter or simply don’t like Biden and didn’t support the investigation of Kavanaugh, don’t claim the moral high ground now because it it isn’t yours to claim.

Once again, our political elites have managed to divide and conquer by turning an election into a media circus and away from the issues that matter

Critical thinking made me first-guess the veracity of both Blasey-Ford and Reade.

I try to look beyond the appeal to emotion tactics in politics and look at things objectively. All sides in our political process have an agenda. It is important to know that agenda whether you agree with it or not.

That our country is severely polarized along partisan lines is not an accident. As I frequently point out on this blog, ideology is a conduit used to rally the faithful (and the gullible). It’s far harder to control the people who don’t subscribe to the tenets of the flock.

Does anyone (who is truly thinking) really believe that Nancy Pelosi really believes what she is saying or is it more likely that she is servicing a political agenda just like her counterparts on the other side of the aisle did with Kavanaugh?

Something to think about before you blindly pick a side.
