To my gentlemen reader over 50 or approaching 50, this is your wake up call.
You’re not “getting older”—you’re either leveling up or slowly rotting. At 50+, you don’t get the luxury of coasting.
Here’s what men your age NEED to do if they don’t want to become the cautionary tale women mock and younger men ignore.
1. Stop “Hoping You’re Healthy” — Get Checked or Get Buried
As a more recent saying goes, “at age 50, look for the check engine light to come on.”
At your age, ignorance isn’t bliss—it’s how widows are made. Get your heart, hormones, bloodwork, and organs checked before the paramedics do it for you.
I might add that by the time you hit 50, or sometimes even sooner, you might have already had a health scare or crisis. Don’t ignore the warnings you’ve already been given. Start making healthy changes NOW.
2. Lift Weights or Shrink Into Nothing
Your muscle is vanishing and so is your testosterone. If you’re not strength training, you’re choosing weakness—physically and sexually.
The goal isn’t to look like Mr. Olympia, not even close. The goal is simply to maintain your lean muscle mass. This is for your overall health. The aesthetics are a side benefit.
3. Dress Like a Man, Not a Retired PE Teacher
If your wardrobe is cargo shorts, graphic tees, and shoes you “mow the lawn in,” don’t wonder why nobody takes you seriously—or looks twice.
To quote football great and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, “when you look good, you feel good.”
Dressing age-appropriate should be stylish in an age-appropriate fashion.

4. Cut Off Draining People Without Explaining Yourself
You’re past the age of tolerating clowns, chaos, and energy vampires. If someone stresses you out, distance is the cure, not a conversation.
This includes family and lifelong friends, including adult children, if necessary.
5. Know Your Finances—or Be a Financial Hostage
At 50+, being broke or clueless with money isn’t unlucky—it’s irresponsible. Debt, overspending, and financial dependence are choices now, not tragedies.
There are many ways to handle debt that don’t involve drastic measures like bankruptcy. Debt resolution or restructuring are useful tools.
6. Stop Bragging About Not Knowing Things
Nothing screams “expired” like being proud of not understanding tech, trends, or the modern world.
This sort of self-deprecation is a turn off to men and women alike, young and old alike, and serves no purpose other than to make you look rigidly incompetent.
Adapt or fade into irrelevance.
7. Fix Your Face, Hair, Teeth, and Posture
You don’t get points for “not caring.” Self-neglect just makes you look tired, cheap, and replaceable. Grooming is self-respect, not vanity.
Besides, there is nothing sexier to a woman than a well-groomed, well-dressed man.
8. Get a Purpose or Wait to Die
Men without a mission in life decay fast. “Taking it easy” is how you become bitter, boring, or someone’s burden.
Men who have a mission don’t have the time or luxury to complain about “female nature” or feminism on the internet.
9. Stop Isolating Yourself Like a Hermit With Wi-Fi
No real friends, no social life, and no tribe? That’s not peace—that’s slow death with snacks and TV.
10. Control Yourself—or Watch Life Control You
Emotional outbursts, bitterness, complacency, and ego don’t make you strong—they make you the old guy everyone avoids.
There is a reason temperance is one of the cardinal virtues.
Final Thoughts 💭
You’re not running out of time—you’re running out of excuses.
At 50 and beyond, you’re either aging like fine wine or dissolving like an aspirin. Choose fast, because your body, money, and reputation already have.
